Mary’s Branding Photoshoot Experience | Therapist Branding Photography
Meet Mary, a wilderness-based transpersonal therapist based in Denver who brings a deep presence to her work with clients. She recently opened a new private practice, and needed branding photos for the website, socials, and marketing to her audience.
She wanted branding photos that felt warm, authentic, and professional—something that truly reflected who she is, and she knew that high-quality branding images would help her connect with potential clients in a meaningful way.
Mary Needed Branding Photos
Mary is building her new private practice website, and needed professional headshots. While she had a ton of great photos of herself (she’s naturally stunning and her beauty is easy to capture!), they weren’t branding headshots as a therapist.
So many clinicians start out with pictures they might use as a profile picture on social media—candid shots a friend or loved one took on their phone that are reasonably nice. But there’s a HUGE leap between a nice picture someone took on a sunny day, and a professional headshot or brand image.
Mary knew just what she needed - REAL brand photos.
On Location: Studio Site
Choosing the right location is important for branding shoots because you want it to be a space in which you can capture your brand message, feel good, and it matches your vibe. You want the space to be well lit for high quality of photos, and a setting where you can showcase your therapist skills.
For this shoot we chose the beautiful, light-filled Sun Room at the Realm Studio in Denver. This studio is an ideal setting for professional headshots for therapists because it has multiple staged areas that can convey therapeutic work, and because of the natural lighting flooding the room, it feels inviting and authentic.
How The Shoot Unfolded
Before the actual day of the shoot, I prep with all of my clients so we have a comprehensive plan. This includes identifying your brand story and top brand messages you want to convey in the shoot. From that, we create a shot list, and I send over a pre-shoot guide that walks you through posing, outfits, what to expect, how to prep, and an inspiration board based on your brand vision.
So by the time Mary arrived on site for the photoshoot, she was prepared and knew what to expect. We started with going over the shot list, ideas for staging different “scenes” around the studio space, and looking over props and outfits. And of course got the music going to set the tone for the shoot!
Most therapists are natural in front of the camera because they know how to be present.
A lot of people are nervous in front of the camera. It’s an experience of being witness, seen, and captured in a way we don’t normally feel in our everyday lives. It’s part of my role to help you feel comfortable in front of the lens, disarm your self consciousness, ease your insecurities, and draw out your authentic expression. And the resulting photos are magical.
We also snuck off to the Denver Botanic Gardens after the photoshoot to capture a few unconventional non-branding photos in the cafe at the gardens. It was a fun way to celebrate a successful shoot and snap some extra pictures just for fun! (Plus so the GORG orchid exhibit at the gardens happening right now.) I’m a member of the gardens and know the gardens through and through, so this site is always a great option in Denver for shoots with me.
The Final Gallery
Mary’s branding session was all about showcasing her unique style as a therapist. She wanted to appear present, welcoming, and authentic—qualities that are essential for building trust with clients.
During our time together, we captured a variety of expressions and moments: thoughtful and introspective, warm and inviting, confident and expressive. The goal was to create a versatile set of images that she could use across her website, social media, and therapist directories.
Mary jumped right into the process, allowing her true self to shine. She embraced the experience with confidence, seeing firsthand how powerful it is to invest in her own brand. Take a look at some of the results below.
How Photos Like These Can Impact Your Business
Mary plans to use her branding photography across her website, social media, and any marketing materials as she starts her private practice. Having professional images will help create a polished and consistent online presence. These high-quality images will help her stand out in a saturated market, making it easier for potential therapy clients to connect with her as she grows her practice.
Having professional headshots for therapists also builds credibility. When clients see high-quality images that reflect her personality and professional style, they are more likely to feel a sense of trust and connection—one of the main factors when choosing a therapist.
Especially when people are suffering and reaching out for psycho-emotional support, they want to trust the person they’re asking for help. So their decision to reach out is often emotionally driven, which is why therapist brand photos are so important.
At still / space Branding & Photography, we specialize in working with therapists and counselors. Our mindful approach ensures your brand is authentic, cohesive, and aligned with your values.
And when you have professional photos, the implicit message you’re sending is “I care about myself enough to invest in doing things right, and you can trust me to care about you.”
Why Branding Photography is a Game-Changer for Therapists
Therapists are in the business of human connection. Unlike traditional corporate branding, therapist branding photography isn’t just about looking professional; it’s about communicating warmth, approachability, and authenticity.
Potential therapy clients often browse multiple therapist websites before making a decision. Having high-quality therapist headshots that genuinely reflect who you are can make all the difference in creating an emotional connection that leads to a booking.
For therapists, an online presence isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating an inviting, trustworthy space for potential clients. High-quality images allow therapists to:
Build connection and relatability before the first session
Establish credibility in a crowded field
Stand out on therapist directories and social media
Strengthen their professional identity
